  • Hexafluorosilicic acid(Fluosilicic Acid) is the inorganic compound with the formula H2SiF6 synonyms are fluorosilicic acid, hydro fluorosilic acid, silicofluoride and silicofluoric acid.

  • Hexafluorosilicic acid refers to an equilibrium mixture with hexa fluorosilicate anion (SiF62-) in an aqueous solution or other solvents that contain strong proton donorsat low pH (acids described similarly include chloroplatinic acid, fluoroboric acid, and hexa fluoro phosphoric acid.

  • The HF in turn reacts with silicate minerals, which are an unavoidable constituent of the mineral feedstock, to give silicon tetra fluoride thus formed, the silicon tetra fluoride reacts further with HF.

  • The net process can be described as: SiO2 + 6 HF = H2SiF6 + 2 H2O.

  • Hexafluorosilicic acid can also be produced by treating silicon tetra fluoride with hydrofluoric acid.

  • Fluorosilicic acid (Hydrofluorosilicic acid) is manufactured by two different processes, resulting in products with different characteristics.

  •  The largest production of the acid is as a byproduct of phosphate fertilizer manufacture.

  •  A smaller amount is produced from HF and silica resulting in a purer product at slightly higher strength it is used in sterilization of equipment, electroplating, tanning of animal hides, ceramics and glass: glass etching, commercial laundry: as a neutralizer for alkalis,hardening of cement ,oil well acidizing ,rust and stain removal for textiles ,wood preservative ,water fluoridation.

  • Fluosilicic acid (FSA) is often recovered from phosphoric acid plants.

  • Fluoridation is not simply the addition of "fluoride to drinking water."

  • Bathing can even be a problem, with people who have sensitive skin.

  • Fluosilicic acid concentrates in pools and spas over time while water evaporates.

  • The chemical reaction is employed, not for our health, but to slow down the corrosive action of fluosilicic acid on the water district's plumbing metalvalves.

  • The process involves adding unnatural fluosilicic acid,which contains the fluoride ion inside the fluosilicic acid dosing system (duty/standby)is designed to provide automatic flow-rate paced dosing

  • The majority of the hexa fluorosilicic acid is converted to aluminium fluoride and cryolite.

  • These materials are central to the conversion of aluminium ore into aluminium metal.

  • H2SiF6 is a specialized reagent in organic synthesis for cleaving si-o bonds of silyl ethers.

  • Hexafluorosilicic acid and the salts are used as wood preservation agents.
