  • Dichlorvos (2,2-dichlorovinyl phosphate, DDVP) is a widely used organophosphorus insecticide.

Mechanism

  • The photosensitized degradation of dichlorvos (DDVP) in presence of H2Oe under UV irradiation was established a pseudo-first order kinetics in respect to DDVP degradation, Cl- release and PO4 -3 liberation and calculated their rate constants. It was also showed the role of H2O2 concentration.
  • The hydrolysis of Dichlorvos (DDVP) in aqueous solutions of different pH0 resulting from H2SO4 or NaOH addition was studied.
  • The analytical methods that are available for detecting, and/or measuring, and/or monitoring dichlorvos, its metabolites, and other biomarkers of exposure and effect to dichlorvos was described.
  • The photocatalytic degradation of an organophosphorous insecticide, dichlorvos, using two different photocatalysts

Application

  • Dichlorvos is an insecticide used on crops, animals, and in pest-strips. Acute (short-term) and chronic (long-term) exposures of humans to
    dichlorvos results in the inhibition of an enzyme, acetylcholinesterase, with neurotoxic effects including perspiration, vomiting, diarrhea, drowsiness, fatigue, headache, and at high concentrations, convulsions, and coma.
  • The insecticides dichlorvos, paradichlorobenzene and naphthalene have been commonly used to eradicate pest insects from natural history collections.
