- Expanded polystyrene
(EPS) is a rigid and tough, closed-cell foam. It is usually white
and made of pre-expanded polystyrene beads.
- The EPS beads are the
expanded form of polystyrene granules which are produced
indigenously and are available commercially as hard translucent
glass-like beads with diameter ranging from 0.6 to 2.5 mm.
- XPS (extruded
polystyrene) is also plastic foam based on polystyrene that is
formed by adding gas during extrusion not by expanding beads
containing gas; which is how EPS is formed.
- During pre-expansion
process the raw materialís compact beads turn into cellular plastic
beads with small closed cells that hold air in their interior.
- EcoBead is a high
performance, injected, blown bead EPS insulation system that can be
used in domestic, commercial and industrial cavity wall
constructions as a full fill insulation solution.
- To find a new
technology for control of immature stages of mosquitoes, the
expanded polystyrene (EPS) beads were evaluated in the laboratory
for mosquito control.
- EPS beads not only
prevent oviposition but also kill the immature by forming a thick
blanket on the water surface.
- The suspension process
is common, especially in the production of expandable beads.
- EPS beads generally
are processed in one of three ways, (1) gravity- or air-fed into
closed molds, then heated to expand up to 50 times their original
volume; (2) pre-expanded by heating and then molding in a separate
processing operation; and (3) extruded into sheets.
- The basic term
"fusion" refers to the expansion of eps and the adhesion of beads
forming a structurally solid pattern.
- The Australian market
for EPS is supplied by local production and by imports from a number
of countries. The main sources of imports currently are Korea,
Malaysia and Taiwan. Smaller quantities are imported from China,
Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand.
