Uses

  • Honey is considered the food of foods, the drink of drinks and the drug of drugs. It is used for creating appetite, strengthening the stomach and eliminating phlegm, as a meat preservative, hair conditioner, eye salve, and mouthwash.
  • The main uses of honey are in cooking, baking, as a spread on breads, and as an addition to various beverages such as tea and as a sweetener in commercial beverages such as Sprecher's root beer.
  • Pure honey contains lecithin which dilutes or dissolves the cholesterol in the hearts blood vessels.
  • Honey can also be used as a facial cleansing cream. It prevents pimples.

Market

  • China is currently by far the largest honey-producing nation in the world, with around a 40 per cent slice of the market.
  • India produces a total of 70,000 tonnes of honey every year, of which 25,000-27,000 tonnes are being exported to
    more than 42 countries including the EU, the Middle East and the US.
  • Current prices for Canadian honey are in the range of $1.25-$1.30/lb.
  • Brazil is becoming a more important player in the world honey market.
