  • Polyvinyl chloride, commonly abbreviated PVC, is a widely used thermoplastic polymer. In terms of revenue generated, it is one of the most valuable products of the chemical industry.

  • A cable is one or more wires or optical fibers bound together, typically in a common protective jacket or sheath. The individual wires or fibers inside the jacket may be covered or insulated and combination cables may contain both electrical wires and optical fibers.

  • Electrical wiring in general refers to insulated conductors used to carry electricity, and associated devices. General aspects of electrical wiring as used to provide power in buildings and structures, commonly referred to as building wiring.


  • Electrical cables may be made flexible by stranding the wires. In this process, smaller individual wires are twisted or braided together to produce larger wires that are more flexible than solid wires of similar size. Bunching small wires before concentric stranding adds the most flexibility.

  • Bulk copper is formed into wire of varying diameters by drawing it through a series of dies. Since the drawing process causes the copper to become hard and brittle, it should be annealed.

  • Wires are twisted into cords which will be used in making flexible wire and cable.

  • The copper conductors, whether they are single wire or multiple stranded wire, are covered by PVC for current insulation.
    Complete cables are formed by sheathing twin-core or multiple-core PVC insulated copper conductors with PVC.


  • Compacted conductors to reduce AC losses which are due to skin and proximity effect.

  • Installation to bear thermal and thermo-mechanical stresses at continuos normal and short circuit temperature condition.

  • Complete protection against most forms of electrolytic and chemical corrosion.

  • A tough and resilient sheath with excellent fire retarding qualities.

  • A non-hygroscopic insulation almost unaffected by moisture.

  • Higher current and short circuit current rating.


  • Demand of domestic electric cable is bound to increase firstly, due to ambitious programme for electrification and house building secondly, due to renovation job as old cable has to be removed to avoid any short circuit due to ageing with new advanced cable of high conductivity in given size with perfect insulation against any electric fault.

  • The total consumption of European PVC cable market is 428 kt. Taiwan, the Republic of China, a country with a population of only 19 million, has more than one hundred factories successfully producing electric wire and cable to satisfy the needs of the domestic market. According to an estimate, the total production of electric wire and cable had reached a level of 200,000 tons per year.
