General
-
Sugarcane
juice is a type of drink commonly found in Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, South
Asia, Latin America, and also in other countries where sugarcane is grown
commercially.
-
Evaporated
cane juice is used more widely across the globe and is gaining currency as a
healthy alternative to refined white sugar.
-
Sugar is
sucrose, a carbohydrate found in every fruit and vegetable. All green plants
manufacture sugar through photosynthesis, the process by which plants
transform sunlight into their food and energy supply.
-
Sugarcane
or Sugar cane (Saccharum) is a genus of 6 to 37 species of tall perennial
grasses, native to warm temperate to tropical regions of the Old World. They
have stout, jointed, fibrous stalks that are rich in sugar and measure 2 to
6 meters tall.
Process
-
Sugarcane
processing is focussed on the production of cane sugar (sucrose) from
sugarcane. The cane is received at the mill and prepared for extraction of
the juice. At the mill, the cane is mechanically unloaded, placed in a large
pile, and, prior to milling, the cane is cleaned. The milling process occurs
in two steps: breaking the hard structure of the cane and grinding the cane.
After sugar cane has been harvested it must be processed within less than 24
hours to avoid sugar loss by inversion to glucose and fructose.
-
The cane
is first washed to remove mud and debris. Then the cane is chopped and
shredded in huge roller mills for extracting the juice. About 93% of the
juice is extracted. The spent cane, called bagasse is either used as fuel,
as raw material for paper or hardboard, or as insulating material.
Applications
-
Sugarcane
juice has many medicinal properties. It strengthens the stomach, kidneys,
heart, eyes, brain and sex organs.
-
Sugarcane
is very useful in scanty urination and it keeps the urinary flow clear and
helps the kidneys to perform their functions properly.
-
Sugarcane
juice is a fattening food. It is thus an effective remedy for thinness and a
rapid gain in weight can be achieved by its regular use.
-
The juice
is beneficial in fevers. In febrile disorders which causes fever, when there
is a great protein loss, liberal intake of sugarcane juice supplies the body
with necessary protein and other food elements.
Report
-
The
sugarcane juice have a key ingredients in this technique, called
ultrafiltration, are indigenous polymeric membrane modules. These membranes
can withstand high temperatures and are only the second of their kind used
in the sugar industry worldwide.
-
Sugarcane
and sugarbeet are the main sources of sugar in the world. Out of total sugar
produced in the world 60 per cent is obtained only from sugarcane.
-
Asia is
the largest producer of sugar followed by Europe. Most of the sugar in Asia
comes from sugarcane whereas in Europe from sugarbeet and presently
sugarcane is grown in an area of 16 m. ha. in over 79 countries and the
global production of raw sugar is 112 m.t.
